Ballgowns
British Glamour Since 1950
19th May 2012 - 6 January 2013
During London Fashion Week I decided to go and see this exhibition at the Victoria & Albert as the exhibition is all about celebrating British design and creativity from 1948 to the present day. The exhibition has a series of major exhibitions and displays on the ground floor showing ballgowns since 1950 and then the Mezzanine which shows contemporary ballgowns. The main reason of this exhibition was to showcase 60 years of stylish evening wear from debutantes and royalty to the red carpet.
The V&A wrote "For the most part, ballgowns have stood apart from fashion, while occasionally reflecting current developments in the fashion world. Yet they remain objects of fascination. The luxurious fabrics, intricate work and fine finish demonstrate the skill of British designers in creating dresses that convey splendour and spectacle..."
I can honestly say I was fascinated by the exhibition, it was just beautiful and I would recommend anyone to go and see it.
