Weave Project #1

So my lack of blogging has been completely down to my work load at university. This is one of my finished projects in Weave. The project was an interiors project where you had to design for a company taking elements of the company and design fabric samples that could be sold as part of the company, so I chose Ralph Lauren Home. Even though this is a interiors project I ended up using a lot of fashion research because the colour's (especially the lime green) came directly from fashion and I wanted to give my designs a little more of an edge by using this colour.
I'm currently starting my second weave project and this one is fashion based as well as doing a sketchbook project. I only have four weeks left so as soon as I'm finished I'll be back blogging!

London for the Knitting & Stitching Show

I recently just came back from London where I exhibited work at The Knitting and Stitching Show at Alexandra Palace. The exhibition was part of the Knitting Textile Awards which I was a finalist showing the hand knitted and hand dyed jumper I made for my final project during the art foundation course I did before I came to Heriot Watt. I still have another show at Harrogate in November hence why I haven't blogged about the exhibition yet, the winner will also be announced then so when I'm there in November I'll also get some photos of the other finalists work.
I was in London for five days during this exhibition so these are just some of my photo's off instagram (@claree.c).

LOVE - Anne-Sofie Madsen

Anne-Sofie Madsen S/S 2013 Campaign.
While doing some research to try and get some inspiration for university work I came across this designer and I am quite simply in love.
"Here is a young designer that we just can not seem to get enough of. Everything that Denmark’s fashion shining star,Anne-Sofie Madsen puts in front of us is a testimonial to her growing success. In her S/S 2013 campaign she shows us again that her talent does not end at design and illustration. Her keen eye and refined aesthetic extends into her ability to collaborate with photographer Jens Langkjaer, so seamlessly that the branding appears to never have left her control, truly a remarkable transition for such a young designer. Christian Blanken & Aminaka Wilmont SS13

During London Fashion Week I was lucky enough to attend the Christian Blanken Spring/Summer 2013 show and then the Aminaka Wilmont Spring/Summer13 show. I loved the clean cut lines in Christian Blanken.
Aminaka Wilmont Spring/Summer collection 'Threicae', working with the concept of "working textures onto bare skin" were just beautiful especially the soft print work contrasting with the harsh black hair of the models.

Ballgowns @ The V&A

Ballgowns
British Glamour Since 1950
19th May 2012 - 6 January 2013

During London Fashion Week I decided to go and see this exhibition at the Victoria & Albert as the exhibition is all about celebrating British design and creativity from 1948 to the present day. The exhibition has a series of major exhibitions and displays on the ground floor showing ballgowns since 1950 and then the Mezzanine which shows contemporary ballgowns. The main reason of this exhibition was to showcase 60 years of stylish evening wear from debutantes and royalty to the red carpet.
The V&A wrote "For the most part, ballgowns have stood apart from fashion, while occasionally reflecting current developments in the fashion world. Yet they remain objects of fascination. The luxurious fabrics, intricate work and fine finish demonstrate the skill of British designers in creating dresses that convey splendour and spectacle..."
I can honestly say I was fascinated by the exhibition, it was just beautiful and I would recommend anyone to go and see it.

Lilac Love

So I did it and dyed my hair lilac/lavender and I'm so pleased I did it! Hopefully it won't fade too fast but I've bought a purple shampoo which apparently will keep the colour there if it's been dyed so fingers crossed it will. This isn't really the best picture of the colour but I've just dyed it tonight!

1.

My lack of posts recently has been due to the fact I have been working non stop with the designer Paul Shriek on the costumes for a dance in Northumberland/Alnwick and it will be shown at the Olympic torch bearing in Alnwick and seen nationally on the BBC. These are just quick shots from the costumes hanging up in rehearsals today, altogether the costumes are made up of 32 separate pieces for 8 dancers. We designed together and digitally printed the fabric for the corsets/sleeves/and kilts and then the rest of the garments are dyed by hand. I absolutely love the results because they really represent the Northumberland countryside and have a rawness that is shown within the piece. I'm so excited to see the final show at the end of June and I'll keep you updated on work until then! Sorry for my lack of posts, I've just been so busy! C.x

DIY studded iphone case

White silicone rubber case & studs: eBay

I have been lusting over studded iphone cases recently but I begrudge paying over £20 for a iphone case when I know I could make it myself. So I set about the task of doing it myself, and it was so easy! I know they aren't perfectly straight but I don't mind. Altogether the iphone case cost me 99p and the studs were £5.00 for 50! It was such a bargain, I love it. I even have studs left so I'll be using them on shorts or maybe a jacket. Once I get around doing that I'll show you :) C. x
